In 1978 Bob and Nancy Bearden started making a simple product from wood for children. A small ad in their local paper brought in many inquires and orders. At this stage, practically the only investment was Bob's time and effort. All supplies were ordered only after the had a firm order for merchandise.

For the first two years they sold their products solely through newspaper ads. Bob's original shop was nothing but space under a shade tree in the back yard. But as business grew, the couple incorporated and built a 2,400 square foot shop. In 1988 they moved into a new 13,000 square foot facility. Using seasoned pine boards fastened together with nuts and bolts this couple produced a simple product that has turned into a booming business with 1988 sales approaching $3 million dollars.

If you enjoy working with wood and have a table saw or radial arm saw this may be just the opportunity for you. The market is so large for this product that there is plenty of room for others to market similar items. This is a true million-dollar business.

Bob and Nancy Bearden produce children's swing sets and other play attachments. A tower playhouse, slide, fireman's pole, climbing rope and several other safe play equipment items make up their product line.
